    Only standalone induction cooktop

Posted by Samuel Davis on 24th Apr 2024

There seem to only be 2 standalone induction cooktops on the market; this one, and one from Midea. The reviews from Midea aren't great so we decided to spend almost 4x the amount on this one. Buying this oven has saved us from a ceramic oven, and also saved us from needing to remodel the kitchen cabinets. The cooktop is great, it's got 17 or 18 temperature settings (1-9 with half steps). Cheaper induction opens on low temperatures cycle high power on and off which isn't great for cooking certain dishes. This cooktop doesn't have these issues, the lower settings cook consistently at lower temperatures and have a good degree of temperature control. The controls are annoying though. It doesn't have a temperature slider like some other cooktop models so to go from 9 to 5, you're pressing the minus button 8 times, sometimes with a few extra as it doesn't register every press of the interface. If you hold it down, it will take 5-10 seconds to get from 9 to 5. Not great, but still worth it to get away from ceramic or hot plate cooktops. The oven is fantastic. It heats quickly, and has a specific setting to get it to the desired temperature faster than normal. Our previous oven would consistently take a long time to heat up, but even when it said it was at the correct temperature, a thermometer showed it was significantly off. This one heats fast and seems to stay at the expected temperature well. Since getting this oven 2 weeks ago I've suddenly gained a passion for cooking oven meals. The pre-set options are also great to auto-cook certain foods and auto-switch off afterwards. There are valid complaints online about the controls again. The dials are obviously fine, but the plus and minus buttons are a bit of a pain. The touch buttons can be tricky to see as others have mentioned. Prior to this purchase I've maybe cooked 1 meal a month in the oven. In the last 2 weeks I've probably cooked 7 meals in the oven. I'm finding myself buying pre-flavored meats and using the relevant meat setting to get them cooked. They're turning out tender and flavorful. With my previous oven, these would always turn out awful; either chewey, burned, or raw. Overall it's the best (only) option you've really got for a good standalone induction cooktop, I wish I had gotten it earlier. This seems to go out of stock often so I would suggest not delaying purchasing one. With the ease of home-cooked meals this will probably save me money in the long run.
